Sunset Over the Ocean

Sunset Over the Ocean is a painting that hangs on the west side of my house. The view I am capturing is from one of my favorite spots I used to visit. A sweet small island right off the coast of Maine. The colors are vibrant just like the sunset we often get to witness. I usually paint in watercolor, but have recently been working in acrylic for the vibrant colors.

Iris

One person’s weed is another’s iris!
When we first bought our house with three acres, we dove into gardening. I tackled the flower gardens. I starting with gardening magazines, scouring through all the varieties, planning shade garden in the back and the rock garden in the front yard. It was loads of fun. Bought roots and seedlings.

In the process of preparing the rock garden, I uprooted what I expected to be weeds, rhizomes, that had flooded the garden. Hating to kill anything and not quite knowing what plants they were, I placed the rhizomes near the mailbox and the back door. I carefully planted the variety of plants in the garden. As the summer went on, the rhizomes grew and bloomed.

And voila, they were iris! Beautiful purple and resilient iris!
