The Art of Graphic Design

Graphic design covers alot of territory these days. One can be a writer or proficient with graphic computer programs and be considered a graphic artist. Yet what do we call the skill of old-fashioned graphic design coupled with knowledge of up-to-date technology; the cut and paste of layout, stripping negatives and the photo process of plate making and the running of an offset printing press as well as proficiency with photo and graphic computer programs and knowledgable of the latest web standards? Perhaps that would be the 'art' of graphic design.

For some time I have been working with images; both my own paintings and creating digital products for local artists and businesses. I created my first website using HTML when it was the industry standard and have been creating websites recently using CSS (Cascading Styles Sheets), xml and content management systems, working with PHP/SQL and JS. I tend to like to tear things apart to understand them better and create things from scratch. I do this both in cooking and web design. Here are some examples of websites I have created for clients. www.roughmagicart.com  www.mainesafetyforlife.com  One which is still in progress but is so sweet is www.penelopestrandphotographer.com

It's amazing what technology today allows us to do. It's nice to have someone who knows how to create old-fashioned quality with the latest technology.
